Warehouse Fire, St Helens

Fire crews have been called to a warehouse fire on Manor Street, St Helens this evening.

Crews were alerted at 8.15pm and on scene at 8.19pm.

Four fire engines and an aerial appliance are in attendance.

Crews arrived to find a large single storey warehouse 20 x 30 metres well alight and began to fight the fire with a main branch hose.

The incident has been sectorised and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are fighting the fire externally with main branch hoses.

There is a large amount of smoke form the fire, please avoid the area. Local residents should keep doors and windows shut. If you have a medical condition keep medicines close and if any ill effects are felt call NHS 111.

The incident is ongoing.

INCIDENT UPDATE 11pm:

There are now seven fire engines and an aerial appliance in attendance. United Utilities are assisting with water pressure requirements and the provision of water tankers to ensure effective water supplies for firefighting. Compressed Air Foam is also in use in firefighting and to protect neighbouring buildings. Merseyside Police are assisting with traffic management and liaison with local residents.

Residents should continue to keep doors and windows closed. Please avoid the area.

INCIDENT UPDATE 9.30am Monday 27th June:

Crews began to damp down the area overnight with the aerial appliance and main branch hoses still in use at 12.30am. Damping down and checking for hot spots has continued throughout the night with high pressure hose reel jets. The aerial appliance was no longer required after around 3.30am and damping down is continuing at the site currently. Please avoid the area. Residents and businesses nearby should continue to keep doors and windows shut, keep treatment for pre-existing conditions nearby and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111.

INCIDENT UPDATE 12.30pm Monday 27th June:

The fire has been fully extinguished and Fire Service vehicles and personnel have left the area. Residents and businesses nearby can now open windows and doors.
