Serious flat fire, Liverpool L8 - one fatality

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) has been called to a serious flat fire on Belvidere Road, Liverpool L8 this evening.

Crews were alerted at 20.25 and were on scene at 20.28, with three fire engines attending.

On arrival, crews found a casualty in a ground floor flat of the three-storey property. MFRS crews and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) provided treatment to the person before they were conveyed to hospital.

Adjacent flats were checked for fire spread and smoke, with all persons accounted for.

Merseyside Police is also in attendance.

UPDATE 3.42PM SATURDAY 24TH DECEMBER

Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service (MFRS) attended a serious flat fire on Belvidere Road, Liverpool L8, on Friday 23rd December. Sadly, we can confirm that the incident has resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man.

Fire crews were alerted at 20.25 and were on scene at 20.28, with three fire engines attending.

On arrival, crews forced entry to the property and found the occupier in a ground floor flat of the three-storey property. MFRS crews and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) provided treatment to the person before they were conveyed to hospital. Sadly, they were pronounced dead a short time later. The man’s next of kin have been informed.

An investigation into the cause of the fire has been carried out and determined it started accidentally as a result of cooking left unattended.
