Location: Derby Road, Bootle
Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at a scrapyard fire on Derby Road, Bootle.
Crews were alerted at 4.47pm and on scene at 4.54pm. Four fire engines are in attendance.
On arrival crews found a large amount of refuse smouldering.
Crews are liaising with on site staff who are using equipment to drag out the material involved. Firefighters are using hose reel jets to prevent the fire spreading to other refuse.
Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors. If you have an existing medical condition, keep medicine close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.

The incident has been sectorised. Main jets are being used by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus in sector 1.
Crews are establishing further water supplies from open water. The high volume pump has been requested to attend.
The incident involves a quantity of scrap metal, approximately 20m x 20m
Onsite diggers are currently being used to drag and spread out the scrap metal involved for firefighters to damp down.

Onsite machinery has been used to create a fire break and fire crews are using main jets to damp down the affected material.
The main seat of the fire has been extinguished.
The incident is in the process of being scaled down to two fire engines.
