Location: Kirkby, Knowsley
Fire crews have been called to a spillage on South Boundary Road, Knowsley Industrial Park, Kirkby after a lorry shed its load of rapeseed oil onto the roadway this evening. Crews were alerted at 6.35pm and on scene at 6.44pm, with one fire engine in attendance.
Crews arrived to find that a lorry on a roundabout had lost eight 1000 litre containers from its load, with two of those having split, spilling rapeseed oil onto the highway, with the remaining containers also blocking the roadway. Crews have set up lighting and cordoned off the area and requested the attendance of Knowsley Council to assist with cleaning up the spliiage.
The intact containers have now been moved out of the roadway but the road is closed for safety owing to the oil on the surface.
Merseyside Police are also in attendance assisting with the road closure and managing the cordon. Please avoid the area.
