High Rise Fire YMCA City Centre Liverpool

Fire crews were called to a fire in a high rise building this evening at the YMCA building in Leeds Street L3. Crews were alerted at 5.11pm and on scene at 5.15pm after reports of a fire in a flat on the 4th floor.

4 fire engines and a combined platform ladder were in attendance.

6 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the building and began to fight the fire as a roll call was taken and the building was being evacuated.

The fire was extinguished by 5.46pm but the 4th floor remained heavily smoke logged, the 5th and 6th floor were also affected to a lesser extent by smoke and floors were ventilated using PPV fans and natural ventilation.

3 people suffered the effects of smoke inhalation and were treated at the scene by North West Ambulance Service paramedics, one of these was taken to hospital for further treatment.

Firefighters left the scene at 7.30pm.
