Flat fire, Wellington Grove, Liverpool

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an incident on Wellington Grove, Liverpool.

Crews were alerted at 23.30 and three fire engines were on scene at 23.35.

On arrival crews were met with a first floor flat well alight. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA) entered the property with two hose reel jets to fight the blaze while additional fire service personnel gathered information regarding other occupants and searched the property.

North West Ambulance Service are on scene and one casualty has been assessed and conveyed to hospital for further treatment.

Crews continued to dampen down inside the property and the fire has now been extinguished. Firefighters in BA are hotspotting. All persons have been accounted for and utilities to the flat affected have now been isolated.

Further checks are being carried out inside the building by the Fire Service. Merseyside Police are also at scene.

This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.

UPDATE 12PM – Saturday 01/04/23

Firefighters worked diligently to check the entirety of the property, including the adjoining flats and roof space. A ppv fan was used to clear all remaining smoke before residents would be allowed back into the property. The flat where the origins of the fire started is still under investigation into the cause.

The incident was then scaled down in the small hours of Saturday 1st April, to two appliances, and then down to one.

Following completion of additional temperature checks and hotspotting of the property, our crews left the scene at 02.06am on the morning of Saturday 1st April, following handover of the scene to Police.
